How Did Montecristo Get It’s Name??

Well we’ve all heard the story about Dumas’ tale of The Count Of Montecristo being very instrumental in the great Havana cigars getting their name in the 30′s and I, for one, love the romance of a tale like that… This is one of these myths that may never get really proven true or false but maybe it doesn’t matter.. The cigars are of immense quality and I love smoking them as often as I can so maybe the origin of the name isn’t important…… But….. Here is another theory that may be even more to the truth…. Dona Dina Menendez, who was the daughter of the man who created the brand, has a bit of information that is perhaps not as romantic, but maybe more truthful.. Manandez and a few friends were in a restaurant making preparations for an ascent of Monte Altube when the waiter served them a bottle of wine called Lacrima Cristi ( the tears of Christ )… The marrying of the two names seemed to please Menendez and the cigar instantly had a name.
