Montecristo Open Regata

Yesterday I spoke briefly about the Montecristo Open Series Eagle and it made me think about the first time I smoked one of the new additions to the Montecristo line… The first cigar I chose was the Regata and, although I’m not sure why, the one thing that struck me was how interesting it was and how different it tasted from the Montes we’ve all been smoking for years.. As soon as the Open series came out I stopped into one of the many cigar shops in vancouver and spoke to the staff about their opinions of these new cigars. The funny thing was that each staff member had their preference and I wasn’t sure which one I should try first and so I picked one of each and home I went… Maybe because of the shape or maybe because of the amount of time I had that day, I started with the Regata.. First few puffs revealed the Monte profile I was used to but then it started to develop into something quite sweet and more complex.. As time went by I realized that the Regata wasn’t as weak as the Eagle so I instantly thought that maybe newer smokers wouldn’t gravitate to it as much as the others in the new line.. I fell in love with it from day one and have smoked quite a few since then… In wrapping this up I’d like to say that the Regata, in some degree, resembles original Montes but gives you a few surprises along the way…
