Montecristo Open Series

Whether Montecristo wanted to come up with this new line to attract new participants or give some variety to it’s die-hards, we see that there are new and exciting flavors in these additions to their line. The first thing I noticed when I lit up the mid sized Regatta ( 46 X 5 1/3) was that familiar Monte taste but as the cigar progressed I started to detect fruit in the equation. As days go by I tend to gravitate towards sweeter and sweeter cigars and I have some real favorites that I know will be in my humidor as long as Havana continues to produce them. We all know the taste of the No 2, that beautiful powerful torpedo that will give you flavors of nuts and leather, just to mention a few but I think that Monte has decided to branch out and attract those of us who are awfully fond of sweetness. On the first night of the Habanos festival 2009 this line was introduced, and to be honest, it was met with varied first impressions. Some festival goers thought they were a weak cigar and proceeded to give them away while others were impressed with the construction and decided to give them a chance. My feeling is that, since I love the brand as much as I do, I will continue to smoke these and only time will tell how they develop as they age.
