The Rules Of Smoking A Cigar.. Why?
Jan 16th, 2010 by Admin
As a kid in school I was usually the first one who would raise my hand and ask that simple question, “Why?” I never seemed to get the reason I liked and so from an early age I became a challenging student. Not to say that I had poor grades, I seemed to do just fine, but being blessed with thoughtful and intelligent parents I somehow learned how to see through the ridiculous answers I would sometimes get when I left home for the day and jumped on to the school bus. Well, that hasn’t changed much and here I sit today looking around at some of the policies I read about in newspapers, hear about on the radio or what I read when I’m surfing the net and still I ask, ”Why?”. The same goes for the rules that sometimes accompany cigar smoking. Sure, there are times when common sense prevails and it doesn’t take a Rhodes Scholar to see that maybe lighting a fine Cuban with a Zippo lighter will only result in a petroleum tasting flavor or maybe setting down a cigar for hours at a time in an ashtray and then re-lighting it later on expecting it to taste just as good as before simply doesn’t work. Yes, it will still be combustible but I have to tell you my friend, the love just won’t be there. Others will say that you should only smoke two thirds of any quality cigar and then you should set it down and call it a day. I’ve even read that a cigar should be in proportion to the size of the smoker. What????? Are you telling me that if I’m only 5’7″ then I’m restricted to a smaller ring gauge and length ?? I’ve always believed that if you’re strong enough to lift it up then you’re big enough to smoke it. And as to when you should extinguish it, give me a break, I’m a hopeless finger burner. To me cigars taste beautiful to the last half inch and NOBODY can tell me that I have to live up to some standard that was established in some Victorian charm school. This is my life, these are my cigars and I’ll smoke them how I please.
